About us

Rivista di Psichiatria represents one of the earliest psychiatric journals in Italy. It publishes reviews of the principal up-to-date themes of psychiatry, allowing its readers to keep constantly up-to-date with subjects such as psychopathology, diagnosis and therapy, experimental projects and case reports of particular scientific interest. Some of the leading psychiatrists in Italy are in the Editorial Board of Rivista di Psichiatria.

In the last years the journal has received scientific contributions by Italy’s greatest experts in psychiatry. It has also published works in collaboration with foreign Universities, of particular interest for Europe.

The field of international exchanges is of major relevance for Rivista di Psichiatria.

Particular attention has also been paid to the presentation of experiences in the so-called “territory”, and one of its editorial choices is to publish works that come from realities such as General Hospital Psychiatric Wards, Community Mental Health Centres, and Day Hospitals and topics about Italian psychiatric reform.

Since 2004, Rivista di Psichiatria has gone online, taking another step towards increasing psychiatric knowledge in Italy, in order to increase operative instruments of information/training in an area, such as psychiatry, in continuous developing.

The Journal is cited by many important databases (Journal Citation Report/Social Sciences Edition, Science Citation Index Expanded (SciSearch®) Social Sciences Citation Index®, Social SciSearch® EMBASE/Excerpta Medica, Psychological Abstracts, PsycInfo, PsycAlert, Mental Health Abstracts/Dialog, Institute of Scientific Information CSI, Biosis Database, Lettera (Istituto Mario Negri), Faxon Finder, Faxon Xpress).

What is Peer Review? When a manuscript is presented, the editor-in-chief of the Rivista (Angela Iannitelli) selects two other editors, experts on the topic. These editors have two weeks to give their opinion, formulated through a form sent to them, which they then fill out. The editors are not known to the author and are obliged to inform the editor-in-chief of any possible conflict of interest which may arise. The two selected editors send their evaluation of the article to the editor-in-chief, together with suggestions as to how to improve it. The editor-in-chief refers these comments to the author and based on these, decides whether or not to publish the manuscript. When the editor-in-chief receives highly positive and/or highly negative comments about the same manuscript, she often requests additional revisions to eliminate any uncertainty. At the end of the revision process there are three possible outcomes for the article: being directly discarded, being unconditionally accepted or having the possibility to be revised, with or without specific suggestions and/or requests made by the editors.
